Ex-con arrested with P7 million rugs

CEBU, Philippines — An ex-convict who had just been released from jail after seven years of imprisonment was arrested again the other night in a buy-bust operation, resulting to the confiscation of 1,050 grams of suspected shabu.

Police arrested Neil Laurito Gonzales, 44, after he was caught red-handed with the shabu valued at P7.1 million worth in Purok 2, Barangay San Vicente, Liloan Town, Cebu, at around 10:30 P.M. last Monday.

The buy-bust operation was conducted by personnel of the Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 as well as Liloan Municipal Police Station.

Recovered from Gonzales, a resident of Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion Town, Cebu, was a large heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet and 10 smaller sachets of suspected shabu.

Also confiscated were the buy-bust money and the blue backpack he used to transport illegal drugs.

The arresting officers said that the suspect was properly informed of the nature of his violations and his rights. A physical inventory was conducted in the presence of the suspect and three witnesses.

Gonzales was turned over to the Liloan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition, while the evidence will be brought to Regional Forensic Unit-7 for examination. — /BRP (FREEMAN)
