P68 million drugs seized in series of operations in Region 7

CEBU, Philippines — Police authorities in Central Visayas seized over P68 million worth of illegal drugs in several operations from October 24 to 30.

Data from Police Regional Office (PRO-7) shows that there were a total of 108 anti-drug operations within the period which resulted in the arrest of 317 drug personalities and the confiscation of 10,014.64 grams of shabu.

A series of major drug busts were conducted in Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City on October 29 resulting in the seizure of 7.2 kilos of shabu worth P49.6 million.

The first operation was conducted by the joint operatives of the City Intelligence Unit and the City Drug Enforcement Unit of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-7 in Sitio Arka, Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

The operation resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old drug peddler from Barangay Calamba, Cebu City and the confiscation of P13.9 million worth of illegal drugs. A follow-up operation in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City also resulted in the seizure of P35.7 million worth of illegal drugs.

PRO-7 regional director Police Brigadier General Anthony Aberin lauded the collaborative efforts of various police units that led to the seizure of over 7 kilograms of illegal drugs and the arrest of two high-profile drug suspects during a comprehensive police operation conducted within a single day in Region 7.

“The seizure of the 7 kilograms of illegal drugs saves hundreds of lives in Central Visayas.  The challenge of illegal drugs will be continuously met with a consistent, aggressive and highly-analytical campaign aimed at ultimately ending the menace in the region,” said Aberin.

Aberin has reassured the community that police personnel will maintain a visible presence round the clock, reinforcing efforts to ensure peace and order throughout the Central Visayas region. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
