Cebu is finalist in UK travel magazine awards; DOT asks for support

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Tourism is calling on the public to show love to the Philippines anew, by supporting the country in the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, which also includes Cebu in one of the categories for their 2024 edition.

“Let’s go big, Philippines! The Philippines is in the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards—and with your vote, we can take the top spot!” part of DOT’s post reads, as the agency encourages Filipinos and foreigners alike to sign up and vote as a way of showing support to the Philippines.

There are three specific categories in awards initiated by United Kingdom’s longest-running travel magazine.

The Philippines, in particular, is nominated under the Most Desirable Country (Rest of the World). There is a separate category for European countries as well.

Two specific areas in the country, Cebu and Palawan, are named in two separate categories.

Cebu is nominated under the Most Desirable Region (Rest of the World) category, while Palawan is nominated as the Most Desirable Island (Rest of the World).

Last year, Cebu was also nominated in the same category but missed the title, which was won by Cuba.

This year, Cebu is nominated along with over 30 other places in the world.

Aside from the three particular categories, one can also vote for the Philippines in three sub-categories, including Adventure, Nature, and Wildlife; Culture and Heritage, and Gastronomy and Sustainability.

For the sub-categories, one can simply type in the Philippines’ name under “others”.

One can vote through the link https://wanderlustmagazine.typeform.com/to/QUOKskBQ  or by scanning the qr code posted on DOT’s Facebook page.
