Moalboal water project to benefit 8,000 houses

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government is set to inaugurate the newly completed bulk water supply project in the town of Moalboal, southern Cebu on October 28.

The Capitol-funded project is expected to supply 6,000 cubic meters of water daily to the town benefiting 8,690 households in nine barangays.

The Capitol allocated P317 million for the said water project.

Moalboal is among the 25 local government units in Cebu Province initially covered by the ambitious bulk water system of the Capitol, which aims to address the increasing demand for potable water in the island.

The other LGUs are San Fernando, Argao, Barili, Boljoon, Oslob, Samboan.  Alcoy, Alegria, Badian, Dalaguete, Tuburan, Asturias, Pinamungajan, Aloguinsan, Tabogon, San Remigio, Tabuelan, Sogod, Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Malabuyoc, Ginatilan, and Santander.

The Capitol even created the Provincial Water Resources Authority (PWRA) under section 8 of Provincial Ordinance No. 2022-08 or the “Water Code of the Province of Cebu of 2022” whose task is “to formulate and establish a systematic and comprehensive plan to develop all water resources to include bulk water supply system in the Province of Cebu”, among others.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia met the members of PWRA for the first time on October 23 on matters concerning their function for the said water project and how it will be properly managed, as per Sugbo News, Capitol's news portal.

Garcia is the chairman of the said committee while the members are some of the provincial board and mayors of the towns and component cities in the province, members of the academe, and private sector.

This year the Capitol has an allocation of P3.3 billion for the construction of the said bulk water system that includes the water treatment facilities, pipeline, and reservoir, among others. – ATO (CEBU NEWS)
