VMLP to gather members for Welfare of Children Summit

CEBU, Philippines — Vice mayors in the country are urged to take part in the upcoming 2024 Summit on Children-A Legislative Conference for the Welfare and Protection of Children this November 5-7,2024 in Waterfront Cebu Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City.

The summit was given the go signal by new Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

In a memo released the other day, DILG noted on the importance of the summit, which is organized by the Vice Mayors' League of the Philippines (VMLP) in line with the National Children's Month (NCM) as part of the league’s advocacy to promote the welfare and protection of children.

As such, the summit will focus on violence against children, with the theme “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence:Protecting Children,Creating a Safe Philippines.

This activity is said to be “the League's contribution in enabling an environment that upholds the rights and well-being of children in all sectors of society”.

With this, Sec.Remulla encourages City and municipal mayors to allow their vice mayors to attend and participate in such event upon the request of VMLP’s National chairman, Malabon vice mayor Bernard dela Cruz, and the league’s National president, Isabela vice mayor Dean Anthony Domalanta.

“All City Mayors and Municipal Mayors are hereby encouraged to allow the participation of their respective Vice Mayors to attend and participate in the said activity on official business,” part of the memo reads.

Aside from reminding participating officials matters on their travel expenses, the participating local government officials are also reminded local government officials and employees that they are prohibited from entering, staying,and/or playing at gambling casinos.

VMLP National president Domalanta is also expected to submit a Post-Activity Report to Remulla through DILG’s Director of the Bureau of Local Government Supervision within fifteen days after the conduct of the said activity the list of participants, outputs of technical sessions, issues, agreements and recommendations, if any among others.

On the same dates of the VMLP’s Summit, will also be the 32nd National Convention for Philippine Board Members League of the Philippines.

This year’s theme will be “Sustain the Gains of Good Governance and Safeguard the Legitimacy of the 2025 midterm Elections through Electoral Integrity at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.

The convention is expected to provide PBMLP members the chance to renew their acquaintances while tackling relevant issues in line with next year’s elections.   ATO (CEBU NEWS)
