Dondon is acting mayor

CEBU, Philippines — Vice Mayor Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros takes the helm at the city government as acting mayor until weekend while Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia is out for official and family business in Japan.

Hontiveros’ first official act as acting mayor was to issue an executive order last Tuesday suspending classes due to typhoon Kristine. He also had himself busy checking on the different barangays, especially the coastal areas due to the anticipated effects of the typhoon.

Hontiveros also took time to be with the stranded passengers alongside city disaster chief Harold Alcontin and Councilors Philip Zafra and Joel Garganera since last Tuesday. The city government thru the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) gave out free meals to the stranded passengers temporarily sheltered at San Roque and Tinago gyms.

As of yesterday, the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office reported a total of 78 stranded passengers-- 24 females and 47 males including five senior citizens and two children. (FREEMAN)
