Barcenas wants liquor sale until 1 a.m. only

This move comes in response to a tragic road accident on October 20 in Villadolid, where a vehicle allegedly driven by an intoxicated SK councilor resulted in three fatalities and left three others injured, two critically.

CEBU, Philippines — Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas has urged the local City Council to pass an ordinance mandating the closure of establishments selling liquor until 1 a.m.

This move comes in response to a tragic road accident on October 20 in Villadolid, where a vehicle allegedly driven by an intoxicated SK councilor resulted in three fatalities and left three others injured, two critically.

In the aftermath, Barcenas convened a meeting with owners of liquor establishments along the beach in Barangay Tuyom.

He also reminded residents about the curfew hours, despite the fact that those involved in the accident were not minors.

Barcenas expressed hope that the ordinance, once passed, will help reduce the risk of similar accidents in the future.

The proposed ordinance stipulates that the last order for liquor should be placed by midnight and consumed by 1 a.m.

The mayor emphasized that once the ordinance is approved, it will be promptly communicated to the concerned establishments. — (FREEMAN)
