CEBU, Philippines — The corpse of a 22-year-old woman, who was just buried, was defiled by five unknown suspects at the cemetery in Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City on Sunday morning, October 20, 2024.

The woman, who died on October 9 after giving birth, was buried on October 19. The next day, the caretaker was surprised to see the coffin already out of the concrete tomb.

In an interview over local radio station XFM, the cemetery caretaker Artemio Laputan said he immediately went to the barangay, the priest, the woman’s relatives and the police to inform them of what he saw.

Laputan admitted that it was his own the carpentry tools used by the suspects in getting the casket out of the tomb

When the police and the family arrived to open the casket, the corpse had no underwear, prompting them to believe that the body could have been defiled sexually.

According to Cebu Provincial Police Office spokesperson Rex Baguio there are no suspect or suspects that were identified yet.

The body was brought to a funeral parlor and a swab was already done to determine if there was a necrophilia incident.

According to the father of the woman, it would take at least a month to know the results.

Meanwhile, the corpse of his daughter was already buried in the same cemetery.

The caretaker added that possible suspects could be the “helpers” in the cemetery.

Helper Clinton Lato denied taking part in defiling the cadaver.

Lato, a bus dispatcher, said he went home immediately from the South Bus Terminal to clear his name.

He said is willing to cooperate should the police invite him for investigation. — (FREEMAN)
