CEBU, Philippines — The Fraternal Order of the Philippine Eagles is set to launch a nationwide program aimed at supporting underprivileged families and their newborn children through their critical first 1,000 days.
The initiative, aptly named "First 1000 Days of a Child," seeks to promote health and nutrition awareness among the poorest communities, ensuring that newborns receive proper nutrition.
On Friday, October 11, National President Ronald delos Santos paid courtesy visits to the regional heads of the Department of Health-7, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-7, and Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia.
Delos Santos emphasized that the success of such programs hinges on collaboration between government and private sectors. This initiative aligns with Republic Act 11148, which aims to enhance maternal, neonatal, and child health and nutrition programs during the first 1,000 days of life.
The organization believes that the first 1,000 days are crucial for a child's development, and proper nutrition is key. The visits aimed to introduce the program and establish partnerships with government agencies and local government units (LGUs).
Garcia, a fellow Eagle, expressed his full support for the program's launch in the second week of November.
Officials from the DOH and DSWD also voiced their backing for the project. The courtesy visits were organized by the Central Visayas Region 21 "Jedi Region," led by CVR21 Governor Romulo “Jun” Carillo and club officers. — (FREEMAN)
