CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia yesterday highlighted the 150-megawatt solar power plant being constructed in Daanbantayan town through a partnership with Spanish firm Acciona Energia, as among the key accomplishments of her administration.

She mentioned this while delivering the keynote address at an investment conference organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines - La Cámara.

The conference, themed “Cebu Rising: Transforming Growth with New Infrastructure, Water, and Renewable Energy”, is one of the highlight events of “Día de la Hispanidad,” a celebration of Spanish contributions to culture and way of life in many countries all over the world.

The conference aimed to “discuss the potential of sustainable infrastructure investments in Cebu to mobilize economic activity and enable regional development.”

According to Sugbo News, the official Facebook page of the Provincial Government, as one of the pioneers of commercial chambers established in the Philippines, La Cámara aims to “expand business opportunities to its members and to perpetuate the centuries-old commercial and economic bond between the Philippines and Spain.”

La Cámara is headed by its president Ruben Camba, who is also the director for infrastructure in Southeast Asia for Acciona, the provincial government’s partner in the construction and operation of the 150-megawatt solar power plant in Daanbantayan.

Aside from Spanish businessmen, the conference was also attended by key stakeholders from the national and local governments of the country, private sector representatives, and policy experts.

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines also organized a mini-birthday celebration for the governor, yesterday being her birthday.

Czech Republic

Meanwhile, during the business forum held the other day with the delegation of investors and businessmen from the Czech Republic, the governor also showcased its collaboration with Cebu South Harbor and Container Terminal Corporation in enhancing the Capitol’s assets, particularly the ports of Cebu.

The delegation of investors and businessmen from the Czech Republic was led by Her Excellency Marketa Pekarova Adamova, speaker of the “Chamber of Deputies.”

Garcia expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to meet the business delegation from the Czech Republic and urged them to invest in the province and share their best practices with the Cebuanos.

“It is by no accident that I am here, answering the invitation of His Excellency, our beloved President Ferdinand ‘Bong-Bong’ Marcos Jr., to come to the Philippines. Your entire delegation not only accepted the invitation and arrived in Manila but also decided to come to Cebu. There is a special bond that ties us as women leaders,” the governor told Adamova, in her speech. — (FREEMAN)
