Alegado, Reluya file COCs

CEBU, Philippines — Reelectionist Consolacion Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado and her son, former mayor Joannes "Joyjoy" Alegado, who is running for vice mayor, revealed the big ticket projects that they will pursue for their constituents and their town, if elected.

Mayor Alegado said the projects, meant for the future economic development of their town, said the projects include the town’s most ambitious infrastructure project, the 235.8-hectare Seafront City, as well as the Cebu International Container Port.

Joyjoy earlier said the reclamation project is premised on the fact that the topography of Consolacion is 70 percent mountainous. Because of this, the municipality needs to expand its foreshore and offshore areas to cater to the rapid development of its neighboring areas of Mandaue City, Cebu City, and Lapu-Lapu City.

Mayor Alegado added that with the planned implementation of the new Cebu International Container Port in Tayud, Consolacion, there is a need for a reclaimed area in the town to complement the needs of such a facility.

And to help ease the traffic problem in the town, she said there is already a construction of a skyway from Cenapro in Mandaue City to Barangay Pitogo in Consolacion.

To further help ease traffic in the town, the mayor said the municipal government has been constructing diversion roads.

Yesterday, the mother and son tandem filed their certificates of candidacy along with their entire Team Alagad slate.

The team’s candidates for councilor are Dondee Cuizon, Ben Ermac (incumbent), Fred Herrera (incumbent), Victor Maglasang, Leo Napuli (incumbent), Miko Ouano, Ely Palang, and Rex Pepito.

Ako Bisaya Partylist Rep. Sonny Lagon, Cebu 6th district Rep. Daphne Lagon, and Cebu 6th district provincial board candidates Alfie Ouano and Larenz Lagon were also present during the filing, as a show of support.

Down south, former San Fernando mayor Lakambini Reluya also filed yesterday her COC, but this time as a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cebu.

She was joined by Antonio Bacaltos, Jr. who is also running as provincial board member in the first district. Both are running under the banner of the Nacionalista party.

Reluya survived an ambush in 2019 that killed her husband while they were traversing in barangay Linao, Talisay City. She was then able to secure reelection as the town’s mayor, in the same year.

Aside from Reluya and Bacaltos, other aspirants for the provincial board positions who filed their COCs yesterday were Nelson Mondigo, running under One Cebu / NUP for the fourth district; Larenz Lagon and Alfred Francis Ouano, who are both running under the banner of LAKAS-CMD for the 6th district; and Lorenz Lagon for the 3rd district, also under LAKAS-CMD.

Congresswoman Daphne Lagon also filed her COC seeking reelection under LAKAS-CMD.

Meanwhile, several incumbent mayors, vice mayors, and councilors in the different towns and cities of Cebu Province likewise filed their COCs yesterday.

In Camotes Group of Island, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia accompanied some of their allied local officials who filed their respective COCs.

Among those who filed their COCs were incumbent Mayor Greman "Jojo" Solante and Councilor Lymarne Orillo Yu of Tudela; Poro Mayor Edgar “Garry” Rama and Vice Mayor Dina Rama; Atty. Winkey Santiago and Vice Mayor Ching Maratas, San Francisco Mayor Al Arquillano, and Vice Mayor Aly Arquillano and all of their political slates. — (FREEMAN)
