Cebu hosts aviation confab next month

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu will welcome around 500 executives and stakeholders from the civil aviation industry, representing at least 47 countries across Asia and the Pacific, for a five-day conference next month.

The 59th Conference of the Directors General of Civil Aviation–Asia and the Pacific regions from October 14 to 18 will have a theme “Shaping the Future of Air Transport: Sustainable, Resilient, and Inclusive,” and will see delegations from countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Vietnam.

According to a report by Sugbo News, the official media arm of the Capitol, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Chief of Staff Atty. Edeliza Iruguin announced the event to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during a meeting at the Capitol on Monday, September 23.

Governor Garcia stated that the Capitol will host a welcome dinner for the delegates on October 14 to show support for Cebu as the host of the conference. Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and CAAP Director General Manuel Antonio Tamayo are also expected to attend the welcome dinner.

The five-day conference will provide a forum for directors general and key stakeholders from the civil aviation sector of member states, along with representatives from 15 international organizations, to address critical issues affecting the industry. Key topics will include aviation safety, security, air navigation, environmental impacts, and the economic development of air transport.

Also present at the meeting were CAAP legal officer Atty. Jinky Ang, Project Research Officer Raymond Joseph Chan, Assistant Director General Captain Benzar Bryan Balagtas, and Provincial Tourism Officer Maria Lester Ybañez. (FREEMAN)
