Super Health Center set to open in San Fernando

CEBU, Philippines — The 20th Super Health Center (SHC) in Cebu will soon open in Barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando town after the project broke ground yesterday, Sept. 20, 2024.

Senator Bong Go, who has advocated for the project, led the groundbreaking ceremony and expressed his hopes that it would eventually help decongest public hospitals in Cebu.

The SHC in San Fernando is the first to groundbreak for this year in Cebu, but will be the 20th SHC in the province.

So far, other SHCs in Cebu are located in Lapu-Lapu City; Cordova; Bogo City; Borbon; two in Liloan; Mandaue City, Moalboal; Samboan; two in Carmen; two in Cebu City; Carcar City; Consolacion; Danao City; Medellin; Talisay City; and Toledo City.

In his message, Go said that the SHCs are seen to help the public in times of checkups and hospitalizations since it is for free, which is the main aim of the center—to bring medical services from the government.

Go added that SHCs provide various medical services, such as database management, outpatient care, birthing, isolation, and diagnostic services, like x-ray and ultrasound.

They also offer pharmacy and ambulatory surgical units, as well as additional services, such as EENT, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation, and telemedicine, which allows for remote diagnosis and treatment of patients.

The SHCs are designed to focus on primary care, consultation, and early disease detection, further strengthening the healthcare sector in the country, especially in grassroots communities.

After the groundbreaking, Go, together with San Fernando Mayor Mytha Ann Canoy and other local officials, proceeded to distribute financial assistance to 532 beneficiaries waiting for them at the San Fernando Municipal Gym.

A total of P3 million was given to the beneficiaries that include 20 Barangay Nutrition Scholars with P3,000 each; 312 Barangay Health Workers with P3,000 each; P10,000 each for the 14 fire victims beneficiaries (partially damage structure); P15,000 each for 68 fire victims beneficiaries (totally damaged structures); P7,000 each for 97 vendors; and P7,500 each for 21 ambulant vendors.
