Kristin De Dios - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Board approved a resolution commending two “drug-cleared” barangays in Carcar City in southern Cebu.

Under Resolution No. 0926 and Resolution No. 0927, Barangay Tuyom and Barangay Napo, respectively, were declared “drug-cleared” by the Region-7 Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Operation.

The declaration was in accordance with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Memorandum Circular No. 2020 – 026 and Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation No. 4, series of 2021 sustaining the implementation of Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP).

Both barangays have satisfactorily complied with all the requirements provided under PDEA Memorandum Circular No. 2020 – 06 or the Omnibus Procedures in Declaring a Drug-Affected Barangay as “Drug-Cleared,” as well as DDB Regulation No.4, series of 2021 sustaining the implementation of BDCP.

According to the proposed resolution, the two barangays were officially declared as drug-cleared after thorough deliberation conducted by the committee chaired by the regional director of PDEA-7.

“The entire officialdom of the Cebu Provincial Government is grateful for the success of these endeavors and the unrelenting support of the local government units in the implementation of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program in cities and municipalities down to the barangay levels,” read a portion of both resolutions authored by Provincial Board Member Thadeo Jovito Ouano, who chairs the PB Committee on Public safety, Peace and Order; and Dangerous Drugs Prevention.

“It is the paramount concern of the local government unit to maintain peace and order and to effectively curb the proliferation of dangerous drugs and substance,” the resolutions added. –ATO (CEBU NEWS)
