In Central, Northern Cebu: Sea travel resumes

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Temporary suspension of sea travels in Central and Northern Cebu as well as in Camotes Island has been lifted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after the said areas have been declared safe for sea travel.

The Coast Guard District Central Visayas (CGDCV) allowed all the vessels operating in the said areas to resume their trips yesterday.

Sea travels for vessels with 250 gross tonnage in the areas of Negros Oriental, Western Bohol, Eastern Bohol, Siquijor, and Southern Cebu remained suspended as of afternoon yesterday.

“The CGDCV continues to closely monitor weather conditions and will issue further updates as necessary. Passengers and operators are advised to stay informed and follow official advisories,” it said.

The coast guard stations in Central and Northern Cebu and Camotes issued a notice to mariners on September 16 temporarily suspending sea travels due to inclement weather condition.

The rough sea condition due to tropical depression Gener was deemed dangerous to all types of vessels operating in the said areas.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that as of 3 p.m. yesterday, tropical depression Gener was estimated at 250 km west northwest of Baguio City with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h. Gener was moving westward at 30 km/h.

According to PAGAS-Visayas, Cebu will have partly cloudy skies to at times cloudy with rain showers or thunderstorms until 5 p.m. today. Wind is moderate to strong and coastal water will be moderate to rough. — (FREEMAN)
