CEBU, Philippines — The new Commission on Population and Development (CPD) building in Central Visayas is now under construction at its new location.
Formerly known as the Population Commission (PopCom), CPD conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on September 12 for its new edifice on a 1,008 square-meter property owned by Cebu Province in the DA Compound along M. Velez Street, Cebu City.
The facility, funded with ?29.4 million through the Department of Public Works and Highways, will soon rise in this new location.
Acting Governor Hilario Davide III graced the event, along with CPD Central Office Finance and Management Division Chief Administrative Officer Fatima Corpuz and CPD-7 Director Atty. Bruce Ragas.
Davide assured CPD that the Capitol will support the agency in its various programs and activities.
Currently, CPD-7 is situated on a 501 square-meter property of Cebu Province along Gov. M. Cuenco Ave. in Brgy. Banilad, Cebu City.
This property is currently occupied by different government agencies, including the Cebu Medical Society, National Food Authority (NFA), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), among others.
The lot is near the Cebu IT Park, a business park, making the Banilad property a prime location.
The governor has asked these government agencies to vacate and relocate to other Capitol-owned lots in Cebu City.
The Capitol plans to develop its Banilad property into revenue-generating economic enterprises, providing a steady stream of income to fund various programs and projects in the province.
