Capitol to supply aviation fuel to LEASCOR

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Government will supply the aviation fuel to Leading Edge Air Service Corp. (LEASCOR), the operator of the turboprop aircraft for the Cebu-Bantayan Island flight, to ensure affordable fare for the tourists and the Cebuanos.

The Provincial Board has given Governor Gwendolyn Garcia an authority to enter into a memorandum of agreement with LEASCOR for the supply of Jet A-1 aviation fuel. The province is an authorized distributor of Phoenix.

“In order to provide the best possible airfare to the tourists and the constituents of the Province of Cebu, the Cebu Provincial Government agrees to supply Jet A-1 Aviation Fuel to LEASCOR in exchange for competitive airfare to Bantayan Island, Cebu,” reads a resolution authored by Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco.

The first commercial flight from Mactan Cebu International Airport to Bantayan Island was recently launched with King Aces Travel and Tours Services Inc.'s (KATTSI) 72-seater ATR twin-engine turboprop aircraft.

KATTSI is a sister company of LEASCOR which are both owned by ACDI Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

KATTSI works in marketing and travel services while LEASCOR is an aviation training services provider which operates a fleet of turboprop aircraft. The flight marks the start of the fastest way to Bantayan Island, one of the prime tourism destinations in the province by cutting the travel time from a six-hour land and sea travel to merely 30 minutes.

The operator is now offering P888 airfare from the day of inauguration on August 28 until October 27 this year. The flight is twice a week every Friday and Sunday.

Garcia managed to negotiate the price of the jet fuel it supplies to LEASCOR from P74 to P62, thus, the operators agreed to lower the airfare ticket from P2,995 to P888 so that those who regularly fly to Bantayan Island could afford the plane ticket.

Soco said LEASCOR will also be providing charter flights from Clark International Airport to Bantayan Island. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
