CEBU, Philippines — An alleged notorious hitman was killed after reportedly exchanging gunfire with policemen yesterday morning in Barangay Taloot, Argao, Cebu.
The 43-year-old “hitman” was identified as Danilo Gula Rafaela, a resident of the said barangay.
Authorities from Argao Police Station responded to a call coming from a concerned citizen reporting that Rafaela had fired his gun in their residence at around 6 a.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, Argao Police Station chief Police Major Janus Giangan, along with other police officers, discovered that the suspect was armed, prompting them to announce his arrest.
Instead of surrendering, Rafaela opened fire, which led into a shootout between the suspect and the police officers. Rafaela quickly fled into a remote area, while continuously shooting at the pursuing police officers.
As authorities returned fire, the suspect was shot and killed. A medical team responded but the suspect was declared dead on the spot.
Recovered from Rafaela was a .45 caliber firearm and two live bullets found in the magazine.
Upon further investigation, PMaj. Giangan disclosed that Rafaela was an ex-convict and was involved in a murder case back in 2015. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
