CEBU, Philippines — Two men in their 40s lost their lives in separate incidents in the neighboring barangays of Poblacion Pardo and Cogon Pardo Cebu City on Friday, August 23, 2024.

The first incident occurred around 6:30 p.m, when 42-year-old Jerry Baclayon Aujero, a resident of Sitio Upper Tabucanal, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in his body.

The suspect was identified as Patrick John Manzo Banzon, 41, a construction worker and a resident of the same barangay.

Based on initial investigation by Inayawan Police Station, Aujero and Banzon had a history of altercations. The victim reportedly had a habit of provoking fights, but the suspect would usually try to avoid it.

On the night of the incident, Aujero went to Banzon’s house, kicked the door and threw some stones, hitting the suspect.

Banzon then allegedly grabbed a "plamingko," a sharp bladed weapon, and stabbed Aujero in the back, leading to his immediate death.

Banzon attempted to flee to a friend’s house, however a hot-pursuit operation was immediately conducted which resulted in his arrest. The 15-inch blade weapon was recovered from him.

Banzon confessed to the crime, stating that he committed the crime out of “anger”. He is now in custody of Inayawan Police Station and may face homicide charges.

Meanwhile, an hour later, at around 8:40 p.m., a 41-year-old driver was shot and killed in Sitio All Season 3, Brgy. Cogon Pardo, Cebu City.

The victim, identified as Nestor Abellanosa Tabacon Jr.,was found lifeless beside his motorcycle with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police personnel from Inayawan Police Station reported that the suspect, James Gabuya, a resident of the same barangay, was spotted firing an unidentified caliber firearm in the area before the attack.

Witnesses, including the victim's wife, said that Gabuya came back to the scene shortly after and shot Tabacon Jr. multiple times, which led to his immediate death.

The suspect escaped on foot, heading towards the interior part of the area. Police found three empty shells of an unidentified firearm at the crime scene.

Authorities are now carrying out a manhunt to track down and arrest Gabuya, while the motive for the killing is still under investigation. — (FREEMAN)
