Province gets Kabalikat award from TESDA
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Government has received the 2024 Kabalikat Award for Outstanding Support in Technical Vocational Development from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Mary Rose Vincoy was the one who received the said award during the 30th Founding Anniversary celebration of TESDA at the World Trade Center, Pasay City, last Thursday.
The said agency recognized the advocacy of the province in equipping its constituents with skills through technical vocational training through its skills training program called Sugbo Kahanas.
“No other local government unit in the entire country has shown the same zeal and enthusiasm as the Cebu Provincial Government in partnering with TESDA to help Cebuanos help themselves,” Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said.
The program was launched in 2021 providing over 20 technical and vocational short-term courses to Cebuanos who would want to pursue learning and upskilling in pastry making, welding, driving, dressmaking, massage, and driving, among others.
Since its launching, the said program has produced over 11,600 graduates who received their national certificates and starter toolkits.
Just recently the Cebu Provincial Board has institutionalized the said program by passing an ordinance.
“Sugbo Kahanas promotes and provides various avenues to the economic livelihood and income generation options and opportunities,” said Cebu 6th District Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco, who authored the bill.
