OSCA: No need for new senior IDs to get aid

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — There is no need yet to replace the identification cards of senior citizens in Cebu City.

This was the clarification made by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) ahead of the distribution of financial aid from the city government next month.

This came after information has circulated online concerning a supposedly new policy regarding their IDs.

Part of the information, which OSCA labeled as “fake,” is that the new ID will be needed for the next financial aid distribution on September.

“As of the moment, there is no policy requiring senior citizens to replace their IDs. Please ignore this message,” part of OSCA’s announcement reads.

However, there are some cases though that a new senior citizen’s ID is needed.

“Case to case basis ni especially if dili na updated ang signatures sa seniors and sobra na ka outdated ang pictures, layo na kaayo sa personal,” responded OSCA to a comment of a netizen who said her parents’ senior IDs were conficated and they were asked to submit new photos and pay P100 each.

Registered senior citizens in the City of Cebu are set to receive the third tranche of their yearly financial aid on September 7.

This was announced by acting Mayor Raymond Garcia last Monday. — /ATO (FREEMAN)
