1 dead, 2 hurt in 3 shooting incidents in Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines — One man was killed and two others were wounded in three separate shooting incidents in different barangays in Cebu City on August 19 and 20, 2024.

On the evening of August 19, an unidentified man was shot dead in Sitio Sto. Niño, Brgy. Pob. Pardo, Cebu City. The victim, dressed in a black shirt, gray and brown ball cap, and faded blue long pants, was found lifeless with multiple gunshot wounds.

Upon the arrival of the police, the victim was seen lifeless with multiple gunshot wounds. The assailant, who was wearing black at the time of the incident, fled the scene.

Investigations by the Inayawan Police Station revealed that the victim, estimated to be around 30 years old, had sachets of illegal drugs in his pocket.

Five hours after the first crime, at around midnight on August 20, another shooting incident occurred in Sitio Laguna, Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City. The victim, identified only as alias Leon, 30, is a resident of Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City.

The Abellana Police Station reported that prior to the incident, Leon and his wife had an argument over a third-party issue. During the dispute, the wife ran towards the streets of Sitio Laguna, and Leon followed her.

A few minutes later, an unidentified assailant shot Leon in the left chest, left leg, and right arm. Leon was brought to Cebu City Medical Center by the responding ambulance. As of this writing, investigations are still being conducted by the Abellana Police Station.

At around 3:00 a.m. on the same day, an ex-convict was shot in Sitio Lawis, Alaska, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. The victim, identified only as Rascal and a resident of the area, was shot by two unidentified perpetrators dressed in black t-shirts and short pants. A hot pursuit is being conducted for the suspects who fled towards the interior portion of Barangay Sambag 1.

In response to these three shooting incidents within a span of almost eight hours, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) instructed the substations to pursue and conduct immediate arrests of the real suspects.

“Kung dili nato makuha ang sakto nga suspetsado aning hitaboa there is a chance napud nga kani sila mohimo napud og lain na krimen,” said PLt. Col. Janette Rafter, Deputy City Director for Administration of CCPO.

Rafter added that they are dedicated to pursuing the real suspects and that these incidents may be linked to illegal drugs. — (FREEMAN)
