Families living near Mandaue danger zones get aid

CEBU, Philippines — The Mandaue City government through its Housing Assistance for the Underprivileged Sector yesterday distributed a total of ?2 million to more than 100 families living in danger zones in the Barangays of Maguikay, Subangdaku, Tingub, and Paknaan.

Mayor Jonas Cortes led the distribution of the financial assistance. Families near drainage sites received ?10,000 each, while those living beside the river received ?20,000 each.

The amount will be used to construct a house at the relocation site of the government.

Cortes said that it is his priority to ensure the safety of the lives of his constituents, which is why they were given relocation.

Earlier, Cortes also distributed grocery packs and the equivalent of his monthly salary to 120 Umapad barangay workers who hadn’t received their ?5,000 monthly honorarium since January.

They failed to get their monthly honorarium after barangay councilor Libertine Lumapas, chairperson on the committee on finance, reportedly didn’t sign the documents releasing their honorarium.

Cortes asked Lumapas not to sacrifice the honorarium of the barangay workers due to politics. — (FREEMAN)
