City police reinforcing beat cops

Romeo Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said they are reinforcing their existing beat patrol deployment not because it was ineffective, but because they need to.

CCPO Deputy City Director for Operations Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay said they realized this is in line with what needs to be focused on at these times.

The police will focus on financial and banking institutions as well as accommodation establishments and places with high economic activity and crowds. She said that they aren’t doing this as a result of the recent jewelry store robberies along Calderon Street.

"Our beat patrols have been there for several years already; we are just revisiting them and reinforcing them to ensure that we will be able to cover a much wider area of concern," she said. — (FREEMAN)
