Cebu City’s BPLO gets computers

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government received the other day a donation of 15 computer units for its Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) extension office at SM Seaside City Cebu.

The computers were given by the Seiha English Network Philippines, Inc. (SENP) and Seiha Global Academy, Inc. (SGAI)

Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia personally attended the turn-over ceremony along with SENP and SGAI’s officials led by Seiha Japan president Masami Sakaguchi, Seiha Philippine president Shinichi Sakaguchi, Seiha General Manager Mary Ann Sato, and BPLO Head Terrence Saavedra.

In a report by the City’s Public Information Office, the acting mayor expressed his gratitude to the two companies for their generosity in donating the computers, which are a big help for the BPLO.

Saavedra, on the other hand, said the computers are badly needed for the daily operation of BPLO, especially since they are shifting to digitalization of their processes, as set under the law that created the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).

Garcia said this is not the first time that these companies helped the city government, as it already did the same before, although he could no longer recall the specifics of the donation.

Sato, on the other hand, said their company has now established 800 schools all over Japan and in Cebu, including its online school established in 2016 at the Ayala Business Park and a study abroad center in 2019.

She said the donation is their way of expressing their appreciation to the city of Cebu.

“We’re always appreciative of (the) City Government. …With these computers, I hope we can help in the digitalization of our (BPLO) operations here in the City of Cebu. It is also one way of thanking the City Government’s help to our company—to Seiha—and, of course, in supporting all our needs as well,” she said.

Sato said that aside from the donations given to the city, SENP and SGAI had also been promoting tourism in Cebu through its English school.

“We’re not just promoting our English school but also the tourism in Cebu. We’re having tours all over Cebu; we are bringing our students to visits tourist spots in Cebu,” she said. — /RHM (FREEMAN)
