Cebu to host Mindanao town mayors’ conference

CEBU, Philippines — Around 200 municipal mayors from Mindanao are coming to Cebu for a conference of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) on August 7.

Cebu Province, led by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, agreed to host the Mindanao Island Cluster Conference (MICC) of the LMP. Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jason John Joyce asked the governor to host the MICC during a meeting at the Capitol Friday last week.

Joyce, LMP vice president for Mindanao, was accompanied by LMP Cebu president and

Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura when he visited Garcia at the Capitol to personally appeal for her support for the event.

Joyce is grateful to Garcia for accepting to host the event as he believes that Cebu is an ideal venue for the conference. The LMP vice president, as reported by Sugbo News, expressed his admiration for the governor’s leadership for continually directing Cebu forward.

In addition, MICC aims to discuss and share strategies, insights, and best practice for

sustainable development on the island.

The conference is expected to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange among local

government units in Mindanao while Cebu promises to provide an accommodating setting for the upcoming event.

Meanwhile, Garcia is also inviting the Mindanao mayors to attend Cebu Province’s 455th

anniversary celebration on August 6, a day before the said conference.
