Visitors advised vs. going to some Argao beaches
CEBU, Philippines — After 29 cottages in Lawis Point were destroyed by strong waves, local authorities in Argao southern Cebu advised the community and beachgoers to refrain from visiting the area.
The local government unit (LGU) of Argao, and its Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) encouraged residents and visitors to take extra precautionary measures while the area has not been cleared of debris as of Monday.
Argao Tourism officer Vip Semilla also told the public not to visit beaches in the affected area to prevent accidents resulting from the debris of destroyed cottages.
“Kami nag-awhag sa tanang tagadagat ug sa komunidad nga duol sa Lawis Point nga maghimo og dugang nga pag-amping. Palihug likayi ang pag-adto sa dapit nga naapektuhan samtang wala pa kini malimpyohan ug malikayan ang bisan unsang posibleng kadaot,” Argao LGU wrote in their Facebook page.
However, the LGU added that if going to the area cannot be avoided, wearing of slippers and shoes is advised to prevent from being injured by the debris.
“Kung maglakaw o magbaktas mo sa duol sa Lawis Point, palihug himoang tin-aw ang inyong agi-anan ug likayi ang mga dapit nga daghan ang debris,” it added.
The southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina wreaked havoc on cottages in Argao, but no casualties were reported. — (FREEMAN)
