Help pours in for Barangay Guizo fire victims
Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon distributes assistance to the 393 individuals or about 100 families whose 44 houses were gutted down by fire in barangay Guizo on July 18, 2024.

CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City officials, the city government, Ako Bisaya Partylist, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 recently gave various forms of assistance to fire victims of barangay Guizo.

Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano Dizon, with the assistance of DSWD-7, distributed immediate relief goods to the 393 individuals making up about 100 families whose 44 houses were gutted down by a fire in the said barangay last Thursda

Dizon led the distribution of the initial assistance from her personal funds like food packs, towels, sliced bread, and milk.

In a meeting with barangay officials, Barangay Captain Jess Neri asked Dizon if she could extend additional cash assistance and she promised ?10,000 for home owners and ?5,000 for renters and sharers.

“Atong gihangop ang hangyo sa mga biktima sa sunog sa Barangay Guizo nga kita maningkamot nga nihatag ug mga items na ilang gikinahanglan ug atong gipun-an og cash assistance ngadto kanila ?10,000 sa mga homeowners ug ?5,000 ngadto sa mga renters ug sharers,” she said.

The city government through the City Social Welfare Services, has likewise provided disaster kits to the affected individuals that contain mats, blankets, brand-new clothing, and hygiene kits.

The fire victims, who are currently temporarily sheltered at Guizo Elementary School were also given food.

In his speech, during his pre-birthday concert last Friday, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes appealed to his constituents to donate or give something to the fire victims. These can be sent to City Hall.

“Mohangyo ko ninyo. Manuktok sa inyong tagsa-tagsa ka malumo nga kasing-kasing nga kung duna moy ikatabang naa kay tay fund-raising drive, ang station anha nganha sa may clock tower, para sa mga fire victims,” he said.

Cortes also thanked Mandauehanons for their support and trust in him.

“Dili ko na isilsil sa akong alimpatakan kay basin makalimtan apan akong ikulit sa akong dughan para dili gyud makalimtan. Ang inyong gugma ug pasalig, ako kanang tugbangan og usa ka matinud-anon nga serbisyo,” added the mayor, who turned 57 yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ako Bisaya Partylist, in partnership with DSWD-7, also distributed food packs, water supplies, hygiene kits, and T-shirts to the affected families.

The partylistm headed by Representative Sonny “SL” Lagonm also thanked the DSWD-7 officials, city officials, and SL Guardians for the quick and efficient response.

“Working with these dedicated individuals ensures we can provide meaningful support to our Cebuano constituents in times of need,” the partylist said. — (FREEMAN)
