CEBU, Philippines — An early afternoon fire in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu, on July 18, 2024, displaced 95 families or 393 people from their homes and damaged 42 houses.
The Mandaue City Bureau of Fire Protection received the alarm at 2:09 pm and elevated it to a third alarm by 2:28 pm.
Despite the rain, it did not stop the fire, but the BFP were able to put it under control by 2:48 pm, and declared it fire out six minutes later.
The fire affected 95 families, with 83 being house owners, 10 renters, and 2 sharers. Damage from the fire is estimated at P425,000.
Fire Inspector Franz Fernandez, Deputy City Fire Marshal of the Mandaue City Fire Office, said the fire started at the residence of Grace Marfa, 66, where her 40-year-old daughter Malou Marfa was living. Black smoke was seen coming from their place, but the fire department is still investigating what caused the fire.
Meanwhile, the Mandaue City Social Welfare Services has provided food, water, and hygiene kits to assist the fire victims. (CEBU NEWS)
