CEBU, Philippines — The Municipality of Santa Fe in Bantayan Island northern Cebu will soon have an institution offering higher education with the establishment of the town s community college.
Last July 15, 2024, the Cebu Provincial Board approved in its regular session Municipal Ordinance No. 04-2024, which is the charter of the Community College that will be called Colegio de Santa Fe.
The Colegio shall primarily provide higher and globally competitive technological profession and vocational instruction training in, such as but not limited to, architecture, engineering, sciences, fisheries, tourism and technology, as well as short-term technical or vocational course, reads the ordinance.
The said LGU-funded college will be located at the old municipal building in barangay Poblacion, Santa Fe.
Colegio de Santa Fe will add to the existing higher educational institutions in Bantayan Island like the Cebu Technological University Bantayan Extension; Bantayan School Institute; and Madridejos Community College.
According to the Capitol Information Office, the institution will operate as a corporate entity with a board of trustees, wherein the mayor will sit as the chairperson, and the college president will be the vice chairperson and the members will come from the education, business, and the community.
Deserving and qualified students from Santa Fe and neighboring towns are welcome to enroll in the said college once it will be fully established and operational. — /ATO (FREEMAN)
