CEBU, Philippines — A total of 921 students who availed of the free college education program of the Talisay City government graduated last Friday, July 12, 2024.
From the 921 graduates, Talisay City College produced 473 graduates of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM), and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIndTech); while 448 graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education.
Augen Dyle Nacario, who took up BSHM, graduated as the batch’s Cum Laude.
The “Cream of the Crop” scholarship program is offered by the city government to the underprivileged but deserving students of the city who want to enroll in any premiere university in Cebu, with the exception of the University of the Visayas (UV), which is owned by the Gullas family.
In a 2020 post on Facebook, Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas said that the Department of Education (DepEd) made the guidelines for the scholarship program.
DepEd is also the screening committee to select qualified students, while the Talisay local government unit (LGU) funded the program.
“Nindot man gud kung DepEd ato ipa choose. First of all, they have set strict guidelines sa screening committee,” wrote Mayor Gullas.
Meanwhile, he also expressed his gratitude for the city program’s success that has produced 921 graduates. (CEBU NEWS)
