CEBU, Philippines — Due to landslides caused by heavy rains, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cebu 2nd District Engineering Office has closed the Dalaguete-Mantalongon-Badian road in Barangay Manlapay, Dalaguete Town, since Friday.
The department advised motorists to take alternate routes and take extra precautions. The alternate routes provided by DPWH-7 were Missing Link via DMBR in Dalaguete, the Vegetable Highway in Balaas-Usmad-Cansoje-Poblacion in Argao Town, and the Vegetable Highway in Balaas-Mompeller, also in Argao.
Last Monday, a portion of the road collapsed in Manlapay due to continuous rains. Four houses near the collapsed road were reported to have showed signs of cracks and ground movement. The landslide was reported to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Dalaguete around 10 a.m.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident, but the 16 individuals living in the four houses were advised to temporarily stay with their relatives far from the area for safety.
As of this writing there were no details as to when the said road will be opened to the public again. (CEBU NEWS)
