New projects for Quiot and Labangon

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Barangays Quiot and Labangon in the city s south district are getting infrastructure projects mainly for youth, sports, and education. Both projects already broke ground a few days ago.

Quiot will have an additional four-story eight-classroom school building under the Quiot Elementary School although Cebu City South District Congressman Edu Rama said this structure will not only benefit those from Quiot but even the neighboring barangays.

This infrastructure initiative seeks to address the shortage of classrooms in Barangay Quiot and its neighboring barangays. In fact, Quiot barangay officials have long requested that a new school building be constructed since the student population has been growing. So we are thrilled that this project is now coming into fruition,  Rama said.

DepEd-Cebu City welcomed this latest development as it is a big help for learners.

"The Department of Education most especially the Quiot Elementary School and the Quiot National High School, we are very happy with this development in our school. We are happy with the additional school building (because) we really lack classrooms and we know that classrooms are (an) important facility in a school so that we can continue providing our learners with the best education that they deserve," said DepEd Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Nimfa Bongo.

Quiot Barangay Captain Danny Teves also thanked Rama and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The said building s contract amount is ?39,800,000 and it is expected to be done in 240 calendar days.

Meanwhile, Labangon will have a new multi-purpose building to be built in Sitio Stage. The said project will address the lack of sports and recreational facilities in that barangay.

The building is said to cost close to ?5 million.

Labangon Barangay Captain Derrick Yap thanked Rama for helping secure the necessary budget for the construction of the building. He added that aside from being for sports and recreational activities, the covered court can also be used as an evacuation center, a covered area for barangay activities, and a waiting area for constituents.

DPWH Cebu City District Engineering Office District Engineer Ramon Devanadera and DPWH Cebu City Assistant District Engineer Manolo Madronio were present for the groundbreaking of the said infra projects.
