CEBU, Philippines — Five “super seniors” were the first to receive special cash gifts from the municipal government of Dalaguete, Cebu as Municipal Ordinance 2023-303, which provides financial assistance to senior citizens aged 95 and above, takes effect.
Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante personally distributed the cash assistance to the first batch of beneficiaries.
“This ordinance provides special cash gifts to our “Super Seniors” starting from their 95th birthday,” Dalaguete’s post on their website reads.
A 95-year-old “super senior” received P10,000 while four “super seniors” aged 96 years old received P15,000 each.
The five recipients were identified as Miguela Bedico Tagalog from Barangay Balud; Zoila Tangpos Rivera from Barangay Babayongan; Emeliana Ceballos Entoma from Barangay Lumbang; Flavio Zaragosa Batoctoy from Barangay Consolacion; and Dionisia Bustamante Heredia from Barangay Obong.
Tagalog received P10,000 cash gift while Rivera, Entoma, Batoctoy, and Heredia took home 15,000 each.
In addition, “Super Senior” financial grants in Dalaguete are structured such that 97 years old will receive a cash gift of P20,000; 98 years old will receive P25,000; and 99 years old will receive P30,000.
Meanwhile, “super senior” who reached 100 years old will be receiving P100,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Centennial Program and an additional P100,000 from the Cebu Provincial Government.
Furthermore, starting at 101 years old and for subsequent year, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Dalaguete will provide a continuous annual grant of P25,000 for as long as the senior citizen is alive.
“The Municipality of Dalaguete has committed to ensuring that these valued members of our community receive the support they deserve. The ordinance will allocate a substantial budget for this purpose, ensuring that our super seniors are celebrated and cared for in their later years.” Dalaguete’s post on their website reads.
According to the local government of Dalaguete, the beneficiaries have been identified through the LGU’s Electronic Senior Citizens Online Registry and Tracking System or ESCORTS. — (FREEMAN)
