CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cebu was reminded by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to provide the Provincial Board (PB) a copy of the specifications of the 2024 projects before June 18.

Discussed in a meeting last June 11 at the Capitol, Garcia told all district engineers that the matter is crucial for the projects to be reviewed during the PB’s regular session on June 24.

According to Sugbo News, the official Facebook page of the provincial government, only the 5th and 6th Engineering Districts have submitted their documents for 2024 projects to the committee.

This made 5th District Board Member Red Duterte, who is chairman of the PB’s Committee on Infrastructure, highlight the importance of the said deadline.

Aside from the district engineers, Garcia also reminded DPWH-7 assistant regional director Danilo Villa Jr. of PB Ordinance No. 2023-02.

“…PB Ordinance No. 2023-02, which requires national government agencies and government-owned and -controlled corporations to consult, coordinate, and obtain the approval of the Capitol before implementing any programs or projects in Cebu,” read a portion of Sugbo News post.

The governor also said that despite the provincial and regional developmental councils’ approval of these projects, there still a need for engineering districts to submit the necessary documents to the PB’s Committee on Infrastructure to comply with the provincial ordinance.

“Ato ‘ning himuon as a matter of procedure,” Garcia said.

Garcia, meanwhile, urged for coordination with the 3rd Engineering District which is currently working on solar lighting along the Transcentral Highway in Balamban town.

In their post, they claimed that the province also has plans of implementing the same project.

Garcia also called out the 2nd Engineering District for destroying “good concrete roads” in Argao town.

The governor reminded the district of their commitment to opt for asphalt overlay when total cementing is not needed to avoid unnecessary destruction of state-funded infrastructure and to maximize their usage. – /BRP (FREEMAN)
