Work on CCSC’s rubberized track to start today

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The rubber granules that will be used for the track oval of the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) has arrived and is ready for installation today, May 13, together with the re-opening of the Olympic-size swimming pool to the public.

Cebu City Sports Center chairman John Pages told The Freeman that the track oval’s contractor had to wait for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association(CVIRAA)’s Regional Meet to end before they could start putting the rubber on the oval for the athletes’ safety.

The CCSC was utilized for field events during the CVIRAA, while the track events were done at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Pages said they still have around two months to install the rubber track, including the curing period before the Palarong Pambansa on July 6 to 17, which activities will mainly be at the CCSC.

The last time that the CCSC oval was refurbished was close to 10 years ago and already had some wear and tear.

Even with the preventive suspension of Mayor Mike Rama, Pages said everything is already in place.

There are some more improvements to be done, Pages said, but the oval’s rubberized track was the biggest improvement to be done.

Further, Pages said that as promised, the newly-refurbished Olympic-size swimming pool will be open to the public today after it was exclusively used during the CVIRAA.

The pool will be open to the public from Mondays to Saturdays from 6 am to 8pm.

Rates had been increased to P50 from 6 am to 1 pm and P60 from 1 pm to 8 pm.

Special rates, however, are given to students, City Hall employees, as well as to senior citizens and PWDs. It is also free for the last CVIRAA competitors, Team Cebu City swimmers, and to all Palaro-bound athletes.

Entrance to the CCSC for non-swimmers is at P15.

Swimmers are limited to only an hour due to the anticipated volume. The regular pool is limited to only 50 swimmers and 30 in the small pool. (CEBU NEWS)
