CEBU, Philippines — A P90-million worth of road concreting and drainage project to address flooding problem at A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City will be bid out next month.
This was announced yesterday by Mandaue City Lone District Rep. Emmarie Ouano-Dizon after she, together with some city officials, walked through the project site on Tuesday.
Dizon visited Santo Niño Village where she was met by the officials of the homeowners association. The village was hit by a massive flood in September last year affecting 470 houses in the village.
According to Dizon, the homeowners donated the property where the drainage will be constructed.
The congresswoman hopes the project implementation will start within the year as the bidding process is already set to start on May 7, 2024.
The P90-million project is part of the P3.1 billion flood mitigation and drainage improvement programs of Mandaue City. Dizon aggressively pushed the funding to be included in the General Appropriations Act of 2024.
Earlier, Dizon said that she is also putting up funds for flood control projects to prevent Butuanon, Subangdaku River, and Mahiga creek from overflowing.
The Butuanon River flood mitigation program consists of several phases which has a total budget allocation amounting to P1.082 billion. The Subangdaku River and Mahiga creek were also allocated P250 million.
Aside from the three major waterways, a P50 million allocation was also made for the flood control project in Tingub Creek; P150M for Basak creek; and P70 million for Tipolo River.
Dizon also shared P160-million allocation for road improvement with drainage facilities in various barangays of Mandaue.
Aside from flood control and road improvement, Dizon said other projects are also set to be implemented within the year. These include the P180-million retrofitting of Marcelo Fernan Bridge and water pump stations in Barangays Casili, Ibabao, Tingub, and Maguikay. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
