CEBU, Philippines — A 42-year-old man was arrested after taking his own family hostage last Monday morning in Sitio Caduloy, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.
The suspect, a construction worker, suddenly threatened his wife and their two children, a six-year-old and an 11-year-old who has a disability, with a 10-inch aluminum pipe.
The man’s father and Labangon Police Station Chief Police Major Eraño Sanches Regidor were eventually able to talk him into letting his family go unharmed.
He surrendered shortly thereafter and is currently in custody at the Labangon Police Station while waiting for the appropriate case to be filed against him.
According to the residents of the area, the suspect was jailed for taking hostages in 2018. His father also said his son’s actions may have been the result of drug use and a nervous breakdown. — (FREEMAN)
