CEBU, Philippines — Two minors died after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a Ceres Bus in Barangay Poblacion, Argao town, past 6 a.m. yesterday.
Not only was the driver of the motorcycle only 12 years old, he was also allegedly drunk at the time of the accident that also killed his 17-year-old passenger.
Police Corporal Mark Anthony Dicdican, investigator of the Argao Municipal Police Station, said that the Ceres Bus, driven by John Mark Calam, 40, of San Enrique, Negros Occidental Province, was coming from Bato Wharf in Oslob heading to Cebu City while the motorcycle was heading from Argao Proper to Dalaguete town when the accident happened.
It was learned that the 12-year-old was initially ferrying three female passengers, but two decided to get off after they reportedly realized that he was drunk.
After the driver dropped the two off at a bus stop, he immediately proceeded traveling to Dalaguete with his lone passenger at high speed, according to Dicdican.
Arriving at the Lawis area highway, the motorcycle overshot the blind curve and intruded into the other lane where the Ceres Bus was, resulting in a head-on collision.
"Na-overshoot paingon sa pikas lane, hubog," Dicdican said.
Both victims did not wear a helmet at the time and the driver of the motorcycle didn't have a license because he was a minor. The motorcycle he was driving was also just borrowed.
Both victims were taken to the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital but they were declared dead on arrival. — (FREEMAN)
