CEBU, Philippines — Informal settlers along the three-meter easement of the Estero de Parian showed no objections to their resettlement.
This after a two-part meeting called for by the Task Force Gubat sa Baha through Estero de Parian’s river commander Aderson Comar and his deputies with identified informal settlers in the said river.
These informal settlers were located in Barangays Sto. Niño, Tinago, and San Roque.
The meeting was to brief them of the city government’s plan of finally relocating them soon, although the area where they will be relocated has not been disclosed yet.
However, the city’s news and information team said the affected settlers were assured of transfer to a safer place compared to their current location, which becomes hazardous especially when the water level rises.
Once these informal settlers have already moved out, Task Force Gubat sa Baha, under its chief implementer retired major general Mel Feliciano, will clear and recover the three-meter easement.
These efforts are being done to address the massive flooding in the city, as well as to revive the seemingly dead rivers of the city, all for the sake of the future generations. — (FREEMAN)
