CEBU, Philippines — A 63-year-old man shot his 28-year-old son following a heated altercation Monday evening, March 25, at Lower Laguerta, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Kenn Pondar Caballes died on the spot after his own father, Eugenio Bontilao Caballes, shot him in the head using an unlicensed handgun.

Initial investigation shows the victim had an altercation with his mother past 10 p.m. on Monday. The suspect intervened by reprimanding his son but the latter allegedly grabbed a piece of wood and hit his father in the neck.

In an interview over dyHP, the father claimed he did not intend to shoot his son. According to Eugenio, he just wanted to scare his son by firing a warning shot.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the police after the incident. Eugenio is now detained at the Mabolo Police Station. — (FREEMAN)
