CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered the immediate transfer of a tourist police precinct near the City Hall to Pier 1.
“Before I will be coming back, that compact should be out of our sight,” Rama said during the flag raising ceremony at the City Hall yesterday, a few hours before leaving for Taiwan.
The tourist police unit is currently stationed at the Plaza Sugbo fronting the City Hall legislative building. According to Rama, it should be moved to pier area where it belongs since there are a lot of tourists coming in and out of the city through the port.
“And that compact will be transferred to where it belongs. Daghang turista inig naog sa barko,” Rama said.
The mayor said the tourist police unit will be placed together with the Parks and Playground Commission and the Waterfront Police Station.
The Public Information Office (PIO) of the city reported that the tourist police unit chief Police Major John C. Yango has agreed to relocate immediately.
Yango, however, requested that if possible, their new location would have a divider and double walling for privacy and security, especially for the safety of his personnel’s equipment such as their weapons and computers and a space that would serve as his office.
“Mo-ask lang pud ko og gamay nga favor nga kung mahimo naa lang sab koy akong gamay nga office,” Yango said. — (FREEMAN)
