Garcia wants more PSHS campuses in Cebu Province
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia wants more campuses of Philippine Science High School in the province, saying the school is “synonymous with academic excellence.”
The governor said it is better to expand PSHS in Cebu especially with the kind of training the school has for its students.
“Because I know that with the rigid discipline and training of the Philippine Science High School, you know, we are assured with the cream of the crop” Garcia said during the recent Provincial Development Council meeting.
Representative of PSHS said there is a proposed measure now pending in congress seeking to establish more campuses of PSHS nationwide. The proponent, however, is from the province of Bohol.
Garcia urged the mayors of the different towns of Cebu to ask their congressmen to also sponsor a bill seeking to establish more PSHS campuses in their district.
“We know very well that here in the Province of Cebu we always strive for excellence... We would be very happy if we can accommodate another (Philippine Science High School) here,” Garcia said.
On February 7, the House of Representatives passed House Bill (HB) No. 9726 or the proposed “Expanded Philippine Science High School System Act” that seeks to expand the operations of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campuses in the country.
PSHS currently has 16 campuses all over the country, eighth are in Luzon, three in the Visayas, and five in Mindanao. In Central Visayas, PSHS campus is located in Argao in the southern part of Cebu. (CEBU NEWS)
