CEBU, Philippines — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Central Visayas has encouraged city scholars and the rest to avail of technical-vocational education training to increase their chances of employability.
Aside from employability, TESDA Central Visayas assistant director Dr. Floro Ringca said that availing of TVET programs can also be a pathway to career advancement.
“Kung holder ka og National Certificate, taas-taas gyud ka og position. Ma-recognize sad imong skills ana,” Ringca said.
“Plus higher earning potential compared to non-certified from TESDA, and globally recognized pa gyud ni siya kay kon mo abroad, pangitaan man gyud og certificate,” added Ringca.
Ringca said other perks of getting a national certification include professional development and entrepreneurial opportunities.
“Ingon ani ka sagrado ang atong NC o’ National Certificate,” said Ringca.
TESDA is also in close coordination with the private sector and even local government units on how they offer their TVET programs and align them to the demand of the times.
TVET programs that are currently in demand include shielded metal arc welding, housekeeping, bread and pastry production, cookery, driving, computer system servicing, electrical installation, bookkeeping, and caregiving.
Clarissa Geraldo, TESDA 7 supervising specialist, on the other hand, said that the city’s scholars can avail of several TVET programs that are considered relevant to Cebu’s top 3 key employment generators--construction, tourism, and information technology sector.
“Kay amo gyud gi-push ang implementation sa area-based and demand-driven TVET,” Geraldo said. — FPL (CEBU NEWS)
