CEBU, Philippines — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-7 recently turned over a P5 million worth pump irrigation project to the farmers in Asturias, Cebu.
According to NIA-7, the project is aimed to irrigate 15 hectares of agricultural land in Cebu.
The Angeles Pump Irrigation Project, located in Barangay Upper Lunas, Asturias is an initiative of Bohol-Cebu-Siquijor Irrigation Management Office, which now successfully provides irrigation to 80 farmer beneficiaries in the area.
The project’s cost is P5,352,112.68 which includes the construction of 4.23 kilometers pipeline, one covered reservoir, 16 distribution outlets, and 70 water meters throughout its service area.
The construction started on October 2022 and was completed on April 2023.
After the final inspection and preparation of documents, the Angeles Irrigators Association signed the turn-over papers, which also entails their acceptance of the responsibilities in the operation and maintenance of the project.
During his turnover speech at Upper Lunas Barangay Hall, NIA Central Office CARP-IC Project Manager, and Engineering Department Manager, Engr. Reyne Ugay, encouraged the farmers to maximize the use of the irrigation through agriculture.
With the completion of the pump irrigation project, NIA hopes to further help more farmers in elevating their lives through irrigation. — (FREEMAN)
