CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council, through a resolution sponsored by Councilor Jose Lorenzo Abellanosa, is urging the city health department to check on a foul odor being emitted near the vicinity of APM Mall and the Cebu City Abattoir in A. Soriano Avenue.
The resolution was approved by the Cebu City Council during a regular session on December 20, 2023.
Abellanosa filed the resolution following reports and complaints from several concerned citizens regarding the foul odor being emitted near the vicinity of APM Mall and the Cebu City Abattoir.
“Such foul odor or stench if not eliminated or mitigated can lead to serious medical respiratory ailments not only those residing in the immediate vicinity but also those who pass by the said area daily or on a frequent basis,” an portion of Abellanosa’s resolution read.
Abellanosa urged the City Health Department to immediate conduct an inspection in the area to determine the source of the foul odor or stench.
He also urged the department to come up with the necessary plans and other measures to address the problem and to ensure the well-being of the constituents of the City of Cebu.
Abellanosa also urged the city health department to submit a report on the action taken within a period of 15 days from the approval of the resolution.
“City Health Department is a frontline cluster Service department of the City Government and is basically tasked to oversee and implement all basic services most especially the medical and health concerns of our local constituents,” Abellanosa emphasized. — (FREEMAN)
