One-way flyover scheme still a dry-run

CEBU, Philippines — The one-way flyover scheme during peak hours in at least three flyovers along the Banilad-Talamban area in Cebu City has started, but is still a dry-run.

This was clarified by city officials on the traffic scheme, which was supposed to have its trial run last May 8, but was postponed.

The one way traffic scheme in the flyovers is part of the efforts of the Cebu City Transportation Office and Cebu City’s Traffic Management Coordination Committee (TMC) Board to explore other possible schemes to address the traffic problem along the BanTal corridor.

Last December 22, CCTO announced through their page a traffic advisory concerning the implementation of a one-way flyover scheme effective yesterday, December 23, 2023.

Based on its announcement and as mounted at the foot of each flyover, the one-way scheme from 6 am to 1 pm will be for vehicles traveling to the city proper, while from 1 pm to 9 pm, the flyover will only be for vehicles heading to Banilad and Talamban.

Mayor Michael Rama personally went to see the situation on the ground and was seen manning the traffic himself for a while.

CCTO’s assistant head, Kent Francesco Jongoy, clarified to The Freeman that such a scheme is still a dry-run.

“Dry run ni siya to look into possible solutions for the BanTal & Ayala traffic,” Jongoy said.

An assessment is expected to be done right after the covered period of the one-way fly over scheme right away.

“Until then, any possible solutions cannot be assessed without trying it on the field,” Jongoy added.

He assured to share their assessment report after they have presented it to Mayor Rama. — (FREEMAN)
