CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) -7 has turned over a P30- million check to the Cebu Provincial government as the agency’s support in the implementation of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program in the province.

The financial support is expected to benefit thousands of Cebuanos through temporary employment to displaced workers, marginalized, and underprivileged individuals.

TUPAD beneficiaries are engaged in community-based projects that address local needs such as transport of goods, clean-up drives, and other public services.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

The P30 million worth of check was received by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, during the launching of the Sugbo Merkadong Barato at the Talisay City Hall grounds.

“The P30 million is just an initial, initial pa lang ni. Dili pa ni mao,” said the governor while addressing DOLE-7 regional director Lilia Estillore.

The turnover was witnessed by House Speaker Martin Romualdez and several Cebuano lawmakers and several mayors of the province.

In the previous installment of the caravan of provincial government services, TUPAD cash grants were distributed to farmers and fisherfolk who joined the Kadiwa ng Pangulo pop-up stores.
