Residents urged to take part in coastal cleanup

CEBU, Philippines — A coastal cleanup to celebrate Christmas?

The Cebu City government hopes the city’s residents, as well as those from other communities will consider this activity and take part in the coastal cleanup on December 9 dubbed as "Christmas Cleanup for a Bright New Year.”

The upcoming activity is the 14th Cebu City-wide Cleanup Challenge- a quarterly initiative of the local government, together with other government agencies and volunteers from the private sector. Thousands are expected to join the last round of this year’s cleanup.

The invitation for the event shows how “this is to encourage everyone to participate in a communal effort” and “to gift our beloved city with cleanliness and care.”

Among those expected to volunteer anew are City Hall employees and other government agencies, private sector partners, non-profit organizations, barangays, religious groups, and citizen volunteers that are willing to unite for a massive environmental cleanup.

“Whether you are an individual eager to make a difference, or part of an organization that wants to contribute to a sustainable Cebu City, your participation is invaluable,” the organizers added.

Even those who are not residents of Cebu City who want to join the activity are also welcome. For volunteers outside the City Government and barangays, they are to register via https://forms.gle/iNYzLbiKsbGKHtTJ9 by November 28, 2023.

One can help by participating in the actual cleanup, inviting others to join, or by donating supplies, food, first aid or funds. Organizers also said transportation, equipment and tools to be lent or donated to the city government for the cleanup is also highly appreciated.

“Let's end the year with a meaningful act of service to our environment and community. The best gift we can give Cebu this season is a cleaner city," the organizers added. (CEBU NEWS)
