CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has collected over P103 million in revenues from the operations of the 10 public markets as of third quarter this year.
The Office of the City Markets (OCM) reported a total income of P103.6 million from January to September 2023, surpassing last year’s revenue collection.
Arnel Quijano, OCM deputy for operations, said bulk of the income comes from the rentals.
Carbon Public Market’s Units 1, 2 and 3 altogether earned a combined P31.2 million. Unit 1 is the wet market while unit 2 or the interim market is for general merchandise, and unit 3 is for fruits and vegetables.
Pasil fish market, including the collection from the now closed Bagsakan at the South Road Properties, has contributed P23 million so far. Freedom Park, on the other hand, has collected P6 million and Warwick Barracks made P4.4 million so far.
Big collection was also taken from the Taboan Public Market at P10.8 million while Poblacion Pardo Market contributed P4 million; Ramos Public Market with P3 million; and T. Padilla Public Market, P2.3 million.
The OCM also earned P6.8 million from pay parking; cash tickets (P10.9 million); available spaces (P106,130); penalties from market violations (P487,810); and other miscellaneous fees (P277,681).
In 2022, OCM only collected a total of P102.5 million. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
